knockout artist from the UK are well known for their stand-up skills and this
fight is expected to be an entertaining bout. Daley’s only recent loss was to
EliteXC champion Jake Shields and John Alessio has had a great run going 5-1 in
his last 6 bouts, his only recent snag a disqualification loss to Brock Larson
in the WEC.
 “I’m super-excited and really looking forward to this fight,” said
Alessio. “This is very important for my career and it’s important for me to keep
winning. Daley is a great opponent who is very athletic with good striking. It’s
also great to return to Canada to fight in my home country.”
Alessio will have his hands full but it should be an exciting bout. The
current 170 lbs champion Pat Healy was set to face off against Ryan Ford in a
rematch for the title but an injury to the popular Ford will postpone the match
to February. The full card is below.
MFC adds muscle to the lighter weight classes
The MFC has added serious talent into the fold as UFC veteran John Alessio,
EliteXC veteran Paul Daley, and IFL veteran Antonio McKee, have joined the fold
with more talent rumored to be entering the MFC fray.
 With a new HDNet
deal in the bag, the MFC has made serious strides in their lighter weight
classes strengthening their 145 and 155 lbs. and 170 lbs. weight classes by
adding well known talent into the fold. With the addition of these fighters
along with talent such as Ariel Sexton it appears that much like the WEC, the
lighter classes are well on their way to becoming a strength for the Canadian
organization that has made serious stride’s in recent years.

John Alessio
John P. Alessio (born July 5, 1979) is
a Canadian mixed martial artist
(MMA). Alessio is currently fighting for World
Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) as a welterweight.
Alessio has fought for many of the
major MMA promotions, including
WEC, UFC, PRIDE, KOTC, and EliteXC.
Early life and career
Alessio was born in Vancouver, British
Columbia.
He later moved to Duncan, on Vancouver
Island.
He rode freestyle BMX. When he was 19
years old he decided to pursue fighting.
While in Duncan Alessio trained under
Canadian ledgend
Jason Heit in a back yard gym.
Alessio then moved to California where
he began training
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at The Shark Tank.
At only 20 years old Alessio made his
UFC debut fighting legendary fighter
Pat Miletich. Alessio lost the fight
to the more experienced
Miletich, but his career moved
forward. Alessio went on to fight in
PRIDE, WEC, KOTC, and UFC again.
