After two high energy events, W1 MMA is back with a vengeance on October
10th, 2009 at the Robert Guertin Arena in
Gatineau. W1: HIGH VOLTAGE will feature the main event that fight fans
have asked for as CARLOS ‘THE RONIN’
NEWTON makes his much anticipated W1 return against ‘MR. INTERNATIONAL’ SHONIE CARTER for
the W1 Welterweight Title.
The legendary Newton
made his Warrior-1 debut at W1: INCEPTION and won via TKO against Ottawa’s own
Nabil ‘The Thrill’ Khatib. Now he’s back facing
another MMA legend, ‘Mr. International’ Shonie Carter.
Newton is the first ever Canadian UFC Welterweight Champion and Carter is one of
the most electrifying fighters in MMA history. Their experience levels are
unparalleled as between them; they have fought in every major organization and
against almost every major competitor. Carter has won his last three fights and
wants to add the W1 gold to his collection.
The co-main event will
also be a title fight; this time for the W1 Bantamweight Title. Undefeated REMI 'BAM BAM' MORVAN from the Ottawa
Academy of Martial Arts will be facing former TKO Bantamweight Champion ADRIAN WOOLEY. Arguably the two top
bantamweights in Canada have been waiting for this fight for a long time and its
finally going to happen at
W1: HIGH VOLTAGE.
In a number one contenders bout, two undefeated fighters will be putting
their unblemished records on the line. Coming off an impressive win against
Mustafa Khalil, TOM ‘THE BOMB’ WATERS re-enters the W1
cage against the savvy BJJ expert MIKE
‘HURRICANE’ HONG. This fight is expected to be at a high pace with two
highly skilled featherweights.
Also scheduled to
appear are Hosier ‘Le Commando’ Bruno, Nabil ‘The Thrill’ Khatib, Mark ‘Boots’ Holst, Mustafa ‘Mufasa’ Khalil, Mitch Gagnon and
many other top fighters from the region and across Canada. A full fight card
will be released shortly.

(PRESS RELEASE) -- After an extremely successful inaugural
event, W1 MMA will be back in Gatineau for its second event, W1:
UNPLUGGED on June 13th, 2009. Due to upgrades being made at the Robert
Guertin Arena, W1 has decided to move this event to the intimate BARIBEAU ARENA. This VIP-only event
will only have limited tickets available for purchase and will definitely sell
out.
In the main event of the evening, Craig ‘Farmer’
Brown will look to become the first champion in W1 history as he takes
on MMA the impressive Dana
Dickeson, who
boasts a remarkable 5-0 record
for the W1 Light Heavyweight Title. Brown is coming off a submission victory
against Dean Martins at
W1: INCEPTION and is looking to win the title against the experienced
Dickenson
who is coming off a victory against Marcus Hicks.
In the co-main event, Mark ‘Boots’
Holst will be looking to get back to his winning ways when he faces fast
rising star Chris Vorano.
Since his last fight, Holst has been chomping at the bit to get back into the
cage and is looking to show his entire MMA pedigree against the IQMMA veteran.
Vorano is extremely familiar to Ontario fight fans with his smooth striking and
impressive submission skills. This should be a war between two up and coming
lightweights.
After
an incredible W1 debut in March, Hosier ‘Le Commando’
Bruno will face Ottawa’s Andre ‘Major’
Desrocher who is currently training with Team Bushido MMA. Bruno is coming off a KO win and in
Desrochers’ last fight he won another organization’s heavyweight title. Both men are looking to improve on their
unbeaten record and make a major impact in the Canadian Heavyweight Division
their paths will collide at W1:
UNPLUGGED.
W1
is very pleased to announce the signing of one of Canada’s top Welterweights Sean ‘Pimp Daddy’
Pierson. It has been over
six-months since Canadian MMA fans have had the pleasure of watching the “Pimp
Daddy” in action. Pierson is super excited to get back in to the Cage and put on
a show that fans will not soon forget. His opponent for this bout is the tough Iraj ‘Cold Blooded’
Hadin.
In
a young guns bout, Mustafa ‘Mufasa’
Khalil is coming off an impressive 56 second victory at W1: INCEPTION
and he will face another future superstar in Tom ‘The Bomb’
Waters; who also won his fight in impressive fashion. Both fighters are
considered the future of Canada’s featherweight division and the winner is
expected to face Mike ‘Hurricane’
Hong at Warrior-1’s next event in October.
Also scheduled to
appear are Jeff Harrison,
John Fraser, Stephane
Bernadel, Tommy
Pariseau, Christopher Boisvert, Eric Girard and many other young stars.
Limited tickets will be available shortly through TICKETMASTER.
